Overnight Stay​

 

Hand & wrist surgery very rarely requires overnight stay. You will be advised at the time of consultation if you require an overnight stay. Living alone is not a criteria for overnight stay. Please arrange for a friend or family member to stay with you on the night of surgery.

 

Many healthfunds no longer cover overnight stay for hand and wrist procedures, nor is it necessary.

 

All patients are routinely monitored in recovery for at least 2 hours after surgery and only discharged home when they satisfy the medical criteria. If the surgeon,  anaesthetist or nursing staff have any concerns, an unplanned overnight stay may be arranged.
